The lovely people at Il Papiro kindly sent us at Papers Pens Poets some information about their history and their products.
Il Papiro and its hand decorated papers, were created in 1976 in Florence, Italy, by Francesco Giannini and Gianni Parenti, two, at the time, young men with a strong passion for Florentine crafts.
It was natural for them, born and grown up in Florence, to base their activity on the artisanal tradition of their city, keeping alive many old techniques of paper decoration like marbleizing or xylography, to produce objects, with an everlasting aesthetical value, not dependent from the fashion of the moment.
The high quality of the materials used and the excellence of the craftsmanship are the keys to the success of the company.
IL PAPIRO AROUND THE WORLD
The company enhanced its success by opening two stores in the USA: in New York, in the upper east side in 1984, and in Palm Beach, Florida, in 1994.
In 2004 Il Papiro opened a new store in the heart of Melbourne, Australia, and in 2014 two shops in London: at the Covent Garden market and on St. Christopher’s Place.
The design and the decoration of each store of Il Papiro is created and studied in every detail to offer to the customers the elegant and pleasant atmosphere typical of the Florentine shops, with great respect for the environment and the tradition of the places the stores are opened.
All of the objects created by Il Papiro, are crafted according to (following) the techniques and procedures of the tradition. Books, diaries, frames, photo albums are covered with hand marbleised paper as well as desk accessories and boxes; stationery items like cards, writing papers, place cards are printed with the traditional techniques: lithography, letter press, hand engraving and personalise on request. A vast choice of hand decorated and printed sheets for book binding and decoupage is available for paper lovers. The Company produces also an elegant collection of calf leather covered items, like books and desks sets.
The stores of Il Papiro, today represent landmarks for paper lovers: the charm of the papers, the cards, the books, the accessories on display, makes people discover and experience the pleasure for good taste and the excellence of the quality of Florentine craftsmanship.
