The Book of Bera cover

It was a bit of a long wait to be a published author: debut novel at 62. I thought I’d be dead by 30. Anyway, persistence pays in the end, even after losing an agent (his carelessness, rather than mine). I submitted to Unbound. I like the idea that if the work is good enough there’s still a traditional publisher where hard graft will get you in the hands of readers. The lovely first edition went to supporters last year and will be published by Penguin in April 2018. I’m currently working on the sequel with my brilliant editor Liz Garner, daughter of Alan if anyone loves his books as much as I do.
